San Andreas Highway Patrol

The San Andreas Highway Patrol (SAHP), officially the Department of the San Andreas Highway Patrol, is a state law enforcement agency of the U.S. state of San Andreas. The SAHP has primary jurisdiction over all San Andreas freeways and state-owned property. As the principal state police agency, it is responsible for the management and regulation of traffic to achieve safe, lawful, and efficient use of the highway transportation system.
The department consists of over 10,000 employees and operates with a multi-billion dollar annual budget. In addition to its primary traffic mission, the SAHP provides disaster and lifesaving assistance, conducts vehicle theft investigations, and performs commercial vehicle inspections.
History
The San Andreas Highway Patrol was created on August 14, 1929, through an act of the State Legislature. Originally established as a branch of the Division of Motor Vehicles, the new law gave the patrol statewide authority to enforce traffic laws on county and state highways. During its first decade, the agency grew into a respected force of 730 uniformed personnel.
Following World War II, the legislature reorganized the patrol’s responsibilities. In October 1947, the Department of the San Andreas Highway Patrol was established as its own entity, and the position of commissioner was created to head the department. The agency later established its own dedicated training academy, which moved to its current permanent facility in West San Andreas in the 1970s.
Jurisdiction and Operations
While the SAHP is primarily known for patrolling freeways and unincorporated areas, its officers are sworn peace officers with statewide law enforcement authority. This authority allows them to make arrests and issue citations anywhere in the state, including inside city limits and on private property under certain circumstances.
The department is divided into eight geographical divisions across the state. Each division manages its own field offices, air operations, and commercial enforcement facilities.

The SAHP maintains a diverse fleet of vehicles and aircraft to support its statewide mission.
Patrol Vehicles: The fleet includes the Vapid Stanier (Interceptor), Bravado Buffalo STX (Pursuit), and Declasse Granger 3600LX (SUV).
Motorcycles: Used extensively for traffic enforcement in congested urban areas.
Aviation: The department operates a fleet of Buckingham Mavericks (Helicopters) and fixed-wing aircraft for speed enforcement and search-and-rescue operations.
